Marshall Bruce Mathers III atau yang lebih dikenal sebagai Eminem a.k.a Slim Shady lahir pada 17 Oktober 1973. Dia mulai jatuh cinta pada rap ketika masih ABG. Ketika berusia 13 tahun, Eminem mulai tampil ngerap bersama kelompoknya, Soul Intent. Namun, kelompok ini tidak bertahan lama setelah personelnya memilih bersolo karier. Eminem akhirnya melupakan keinginannya untuk jadi rapper. Masalah ekonomi yang dihadapi keluarga, dia memilih bekerja. Dari menjadi tukang cuci mobil sampai pengantar pizza, Eminem melakoni itu semua untuk meringankan kondisi perekonomian keluarganya. Di saat dia tengah asyik bekerja keras banting tulang menghidupi keluarga, Eminem selalu teringat akan mimpinya untuk menjadi rapper kondang. Pada 1996, Eminem merilis album independen pertamanya, Infinite. Album ini hanya laku 500 kopi dan dijual di bagasi mobilnya. Album ini sendiri tidak pernah diperdengarkan di radio. Yang dia dapatkan dari Infinite adalah kritikan. Banyak pengamat mengatakan gaya ngerap Em amat mirip dengan rapper Nas dan AZ. Eminem mulai dikenal setelah merilis album The Slim Shady EP pada 1999. Namun, masterpiecenya adalah The Marshall Mathers LP yang dirilis pada 2000. Album mayor keduanya itu berhasil menyabet berbagai macam penghargaan sampai kelas Grammy Awards. Eminem kembali menggebrak lewat The Eminem Show pada 2002. Dan, dua tahun kemudian, dia kembali lewat album Encore. Pada 2005, banyak yang berspekulasi bahwa Eminem segera mengakhiri karier musiknya dan beralih menjadi produser. Spekulasi muncul setelah Eminem mengeluarkan dobel album the greatest hitsnya yaitu Curtain Call: The Hits. Tapi, spekulasi ini dibantah banyak orang-orang terdekatnya. Saat diwawancari BBC, rapper 50 Cent mengatakan, Eminem akan segera kembali dengan album barunya. Namun, dia tidak menyebutkan kapan Eminem akan merilis album barunya tersebut. 50 Cent hanya mensinyalkan kalo Eminem tidak terlalu puas dengan material album barunya itu.
